Dr. Jo Chien, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at UCSF. She is a medical breast oncologist at the Carol Franc Buck Breast Care Center at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. She received her MD from Harvard Medical School, and completed an Internal Medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at UCSF. Dr. Chien is interested in novel drug development for the treatment of breast cancer and the discovery of biomarkers that can help predict who will and will not respond to breast cancer therapy. She is the principal investigator of a number of ongoing breast cancer clinical trials in both the early stage and metastatic settings. As part of her BIRCWH grant, Dr. Chien is conducting a pilot study investigating potential biomarkers in normal breast tissue that can predict benefit from breast cancer chemoprevention. Her BIRCWH research mentors include Laura Esserman, MD, MBA, Chris Benz, MD, and Laura Van ‘t Veer, PhD.
